Valkenburg aan de Geul

Crafts

Hands that shaped the land.

The Land of Valkenburg is made by hands. Marl was sawn from the hill and became a house; lime was burned, crops were washed, bread was baked at a time when there was no shop for it yet. Much of that work has disappeared, and with the work the language that accompanied it disappeared.

Here we keep the profession itself: the actions, the tools, the words that only existed on the work floor, the people who could do it.

What belongs here

The profession of your father or mother. The workshop where you were allowed to watch as a child. How exactly something went — step by step, even if it seems obvious to you. It is precisely what you take for granted that no one else can repeat.
