About us

Where stories become reality.

About Land van Valkenburg — the story bank of the region

Where can you find the real stories of Valkenburg? In the memories of Valkenburgers themselves. Not in a book, not in a brochure — at people's kitchen tables. Land van Valkenburg is the place where those stories come together and are preserved.

Why

Memories disappear silently. Someone dies and half a village's worth of stories go with them. We will record them as long as we can, in the words of the person who experienced them, and we will ensure that they remain findable — for grandchildren, for researchers, for those who still want to know what it was like here in a hundred years.

Four entries

The story bank is divided into four parts: Stories (what people experienced themselves), Creatures (sagas and traditions), Crafts (the work and the people who did it) and Buildings (the places and what happened there).

Where stories become reality

A story does not stop here. With the permission of the storyteller, it becomes raw material for something else: an image, a piece of music, a poem, a performance during the Story Night, or a page in the magazine that we want to publish together with partners in the region. The narrator is always mentioned, unless he or she decides not to do so.
